The Toyota Cheetahs will be naming their team on Friday which will face the Griffons in Welkom on the weekend in round five of the SA Cup.

The Cheetahs will be naming changes to their team again as they continue to build on their depth, while there are injuries and the captain Victor Sekekete is in Cape Town with the Ospreys for their URC game against the Stormers.

This will see the Cheetahs naming a new captain for the game, although the hooker Chucky van der Westhuizen, the lock Car Wegner and versatile Thabang Mahlasi, have both led the team so far in the campaign.

The Cheetahs Springbok flanker, Oupa Mohoje, who previously played for the Griffons, told OFM Sport that it won’t be a walk in the park.

“When we played in Welkom as the Griffons – it was the energy that was different and it was the support that we got from our supporters,” said Mohoje.

“There supporters are going to make it a lot more difficult for us. The field we’re going to play on is going to make it difficult for us.

“But, we’re played there before and I think it’s going to be one of the better teams were going to play again in the SA Cup.

“We’re definitely going to have to show up physically and try and run them as much as we can.

Mohoje was set to start in the game against the Elephants last week, but he sustained an injury during the captain’s run and was replacement by the impressive Mahlasi in the starting team, while Friedle Olivier was called up to the bench.

It remains to be seen if Mohoje will be named in the match 23 for the game.

Sunday’s Free State derby in Welkom kicks off at 15:00.
