Checkers Recipe: Fully Loaded Burger

For the Cheese Sauce:

Heat the flour and butter together over medium heat until the butter is completely melted and the mixture forms a paste.

While whisking continuously, gradually add the milk.

Continue whisking until the sauce thickens.

Add seasoning and cheese and mix well until the cheese is melted.

Enjoy the cheese sauce warm!

4 sesame seed buns

2 tbsp. (42g) butter

4 x 1-inch Champion Burger Patties

¼ cup (62.5ml) Simple Truth Smoky BBQ Sauce

4 large leaves of fresh frilly lettuce

Spicy mayo; to taste

8 slices of tomato

4-8 slices of cheese

16 fresh red onion rings

2 cups (500ml) cheese sauce


For the Cheese Sauce:

3 tbsp. (25g) flour

3 tbsp. (42g) butter

2 cups (500ml) full cream milk

Salt and pepper

1 cup (115g) grated cheddar


Butter the buns and toast them with the cut sides down in a pan.

Cook the patties to your liking, either in a pan or over medium coals.

To cook them in a pan; heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for approximately 4 minutes or until they have browned. Flip the patties and cook for another 4 minutes on the other side.

Generously baste them with BBQ sauce.

At this stage, the patties should be medium rare. If you prefer a medium patty, transfer them to a preheated oven at 180°C for an additional 4 minutes. For a medium-well patty, cook them for about 8 more minutes.

Assemble the burgers by layering the lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, patty and mayo.

Serve the burgers drenched in cheese sauce.
