The Bloemfontein cycling-sensation, Chanté Olivier, announced herself to the international stage over the past weekend with a stellar performance in Switzerland.
The 15-year-old who has proven to be equally comfortable on both a mountain bike and a road bike, claimed third overall during the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Rivera-Bironico, Ticino, Switzerland.
Olivier, representing Cycle World in Bloemfontein crossed the line in 44:10.5, some 2:12.3 off the pace of the local rider, Vera Schmid. Schmid, won the race in a time of 4:58.5, beating Nicole Göldi by 54.4 sec.
The Bloemfontein teenager started the race in 10th and didn’t get off to the best of starts, as she was right up against the barrier and boxed in somewhat. At the first climb she did what she does best and worked her way up to 4th overall on what was a very technical course.
Chanté is off to Italy this week where she will be competing in the Italian Cup for the first time in her blooming career. – MORGAN PIEK
