Centlec has urged residents not to fall for cheap electricity scams.
In a post on Facebook, the power utility has warned of scammers falsely advertising “cheap” prepaid electricity on social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and WhatsApp.
“In their adverts, these scammers would offer 600 units for R300, and 2000 units for R400, which makes it attractive to unsuspecting clients,” stated Centlec. “This is one of the ways used by scammers to rob unsuspecting customers of their hard-earned cash.”
Centlec encouraged customers to only purchase prepaid electricity tokens legally at authorised vending points, and added that the utility does not accept Money Market deposits, e-Wallet, or CashSend.
“Electricity prices are regulated by law,” added Centlec. “The latest Nersa approved tariffs are readily available on our website.”
