The Navalsig High School in Bloemfontein will be celebrating their 20 years of existence this weekend and will host their former scholars with a fun filled programme, starting tomorrow (Friday). One of the highlights of the programme is a soccer clash between the Navalsig boys under 19 and the feared Bloemfontein Celtic under 19 soccer teams. Navalsig will throw all they have at Celtic, especially with old scholars looking on.
The match kicks off at 12:00 at Navalsig. The 20 years of Navalsig’s existence saw many a thriller sports encounter between them and Brebner High School and the weekend will be no different. Navalsig decided to take on Brebner once again, but with a difference. These two schools old boys will bump heads in a soccer encounter as a curtain raiser to (11:00) the Navalsig/Celtic match.
Several netball matches, which will start on Saturday at 11:00 will be on the cards as well.
On Saturday evening (18:30) a, what promises to be great entertainment, "Navalsig’s Got Talent" show will be staged at the school hall. Another exiting event will come to light on Friday (12:00) when the Amazing Navalsig Race will commence. The winners of the event are expected to arrive at the Navalsig rugby field at 15:00. The 20-year celebrations will be concluded on Sunday when a spiritual program is on the agenda at 09:00, after which departure is at 13:00.
Navalsig has been in the news often for their good performance, especially on the sports fields. Two brilliant junior steeplechase athletes, Thabang Mohale and Masello Moekoa represented South Africa at respective word athletics championships when attending school at Navalsig.
Moekoa is (for more than ten years) still the South African junior women record holder in the 3000 m steeplechase.
The school produced several national representatives in sport and together with athletics the school’s former basketball players wore the Green and Gold on several occasions in the last 20 years.
