Duane Petrus – A suspect has been identified on CCTV footage at two separate locations, in connection with the brutal murder of a Bloemfontein lecturer.

The lecturer, Lehlohonolo Mathengtheng, from the University of the Free State’s Department of Medical Microbiology and Virology was brutally murdered in Bloemfontein over the weekend.

His naked body was discovered at his flat in Willows on Sunday, with his throat slit.

Police spokesperson, Sinah Mpakane, says they have obtained footage of the suspect abandoning Mathebgtheng’s silver/grey Geely at the new taxi rank next to Central park.

She says he took the victim’s cellphone and laptop.

More footage of the same suspect was obtained from a supermarket in Willows.

“The day before the murder, the suspect and the deceased were together at Spar, buying food and drinks,” Mpakane said.

The motive behind the killing is still unknown and the police are busy trying to trace the suspect.
