The Bloemfontein Catfish Challenge is taking place Friday and Saturday at the Soetdoring Nature Reserve north of Bloemfontein.
There is an abundance of indigenous species in most waterways throughout the country but they are targeted more by bait anglers than by fly fishermen.
That is the reason for the Bloemfontein Catfish Challenge organised by the Central Free State Fly Fishing Club (CFFC). Fly fishermen can come and target the catfish or barbel in the Modder River. There is a lot of interest from fly fishers from outside the Free State and this festival will be a test to see if such a festival is viable. CFFC is keeping the numbers of attendances low to ensure it can be run successfully on an annual basis.
Accommodation with self catering is available booked through CFFC. Fly fishing is taking Bloemfontein by storm and you will have to make your booking as soon as possible. For more information contact Abrie Dennis at 083-314-2874 or John Gavin at 083-543-7744.
