The Agripreneur Farmer’s Institute (AFI), in collaboration with Blind Love Africa, has launched another series of carthorse outreach initiatives to help owners in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu care for their carthorses. AFI founder Clement Litlhare said the aim is to raise awareness around horse welfare by supporting owners with equipment, feed, medication, and workshops to ensure the well-being of their animals.

The team also treats horses for internal and external parasites, and performs dental checks and tooth floating to prevent oral health issues. “All this will hopefully improve the overall health and welfare of these hard-working horses,” he added.
One of the owners, Botshelo Mokalabane (24), has always loved horses and is making a living through deliveries in the area. He is grateful for initiatives that are willing to teach entrepreneurs like himself how to take better care of their horses.

Realeboga Bokako (23) learnt to ride a horse from his grandfather. He said carthorses offer an affordable way to transport goods within the community he serves, and thanks to the outreach programme, he’s able to ensure his horse’s well-being is properly maintained.

The initiative is run in partnership with Blind Love Africa, which has been sponsored by Animal Aid Abroad in Australia since 2023.
