Car crashes into bridge and bakkie killing one, Vanderbijlpark

A man was killed after his car crashed into a bridge barrier and bakkie on the Ascott-on-Vaal Road in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday evening.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found both vehicles in the middle of the road.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, the deceased’s light motor vehicle had sustained a large amount of damage, with debris spread across the accident scene.

“When we inspected the scene we found the body of a man lying partially beneath the bakkie. Unfortunately this man showed no signs of life. We immediately assessment and found that he has already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries. Unfortunately nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene. The occupants of the bakkie were assessed and found fortunately to have escaped injury.”

Meiring adds that details surrounding this incident are subject to the investigation of local authorities but it is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the bridge barrier, eject the driver, and subsequently crash into the bakkie.
