The Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea) has embarked on the Free State Camp-out Experience campaign in an effort to promote its resorts and reserves.

According to the department this campaign includes the hosting of Eco-tourism events, programmes and excursions at state-owned attractions.

“The department’s resorts and reserves offer unforgettable experiences at low cost, catering for all demographics, such as family and individual outings, as well as year-end functions,” Destea said in a statement.

The resorts and reserves offer amenities such as chalets, braai areas, picnic areas, swimming pools, camping sites and activities that include game drives, bird watching and fishing.

“As stated in 2021/2022 Budget Vote, these facilities will be the centre of Eco-tourism revitalisation by positioning the Free State as an inland destination of choice through conducting various activities for people to enjoy whilst making revenue on the state-owned resources,” said Destea.

Remaining events for 2021 are at the Gariep Nature Reserve and Resort from 10 to 12 December 2021 and at the Sterkfontein Nature Reserve and Resort from 17 to 19 December 2021.
