Calm restored to Deneysville

The police in the Free State are still monitoring the situation in Deneysville following unrest.

A protest action erupted  in the Deneyville area on the R716 in the direction of Sasolburg on Thursday. Protesters barricaded roads with burning tyres and stones.

It is alleged residents were up in arms over service delivery issues, with those in informal settlements demanding the provision of houses, water and electricity.

Police Spokesperson, Josephine Rani, confirms there is still a strong police presence in the area and they are keeping a close eye, although the situation has calmed down.

She says the road is open but warns motorists to watch out for debris. A spokesperson for the local Metsimaholo Municipality, Dr Gino Alberts, is yet to respond to OFM News’ inquiry on the matter.
