Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley invites all cable thieves in the Northern Cape to bring back stolen electricity cables.
Spokesperson Sello Matsie said they opted to buy the stolen cables back from the thieves who stole them rather than let them get damaged. He said they will be waiting at the Kimberley City Hall on Thursday from 10:00 in the morning till 16:00 in the afternoon.
“We are appealing to the thieves to come and meet us, as we want to have a discussion with them. They must bring their IDs and the stolen electricity cables. We might give them some ten percent more for it than what they are selling it for at a scrapyard. They can meet us at the city hall, all of them are welcome. We will only allow thieves with copper cables and everything that they have ever stolen from the municipality,” said Sello.
This is after a pharmacy section of the Floors Clinic got damaged on Tuesday due to thieves who stole neutral and related cables from the adjacent civic centre substation. Matsie added that the theft led to a fire breakout in the pharmacy, which has now disrupted services. Last week, thieves stole the entire fence of the same clinic and made several attempts to enter the substation.
The clinic will remain shut until next week Monday, 11 August 2014.
