Cable theft leads to fire at substation

Groenvoerlande Substation outside the Free State that was damaged by the fire

Electricity supply to parts of Bethlehem as well as customers feeding from surrounding rural lines was interrupted at 02:00 this morning. According to a statement by Eskom, theft and severe damage led to a fire at Groenvoerlande Substation outside the Free State.

Eskom has since managed to restore supply to all affected customers.

The fire has been contained after causing excessive and costly damage to infrastructure at the substation.

Eskom condemns such unacceptable acts of theft and vandalism.
