The owner of the warehouse that went up in flames yesterday (Sunday), causing huge damage, says the fire incident has become a reality now and it is starting to hurt. The warehouse owner, Savvas Kyriacou (73), however, emphasises that he needs to keep on moving forward.
Kyriacou says more than a million rand’s damage was done and the state has already opened a case of arson. He says a man residing across the warehouse witnessed how the fire unfolded and they already have two suspects that can be identified to the police.
“The man saw two people starting a fire. He says he knows them well. The police have said that they will be arresting the suspects today. The warehouse had different kinds of goods. They were general goods. I am a man who believes one should keep on moving and not give up, so I’m going to keep on going forward.”
“This, however, is holding me back because I cannot do my normal work. I now have to investigate the fire. Until they have put me under, I have to carry on. We have to keep on moving forward. We need to give jobs to people. We need to help them and if we don’t give them jobs, then we are going to have more problems.”
