A police constable in Bultfontein tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Sunday 22 September. Police spokesperson Capt. Lorraine Earle reported that the incident took place around 17:00 in the Phahameng township when officers were responding to a call.

“During the incident, Constable Mojalefa Borolo (30) sustained fatal injuries and despite efforts to rescue his life by emergency medical services, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene,” stated Earle.

In response to the incident, backup arrived, including members from the Public Order Police Unit in Welkom. Three suspects barricaded themselves inside a house, blocking all entrances. Police executed a tactical entry, during which the three men were fatally wounded.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen member during this difficult time. Constable Borolo’s sacrifice will not be forgotten,” said the Acting Provincial Police Commissioner in the Free State, Major General Solly Lesia.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has reportedly been informed, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ deaths is currently in progress. The IPID will continue to lead the investigation into the fatalities.
