The Bulls will be replacing Italy A in the Toyota Challenge that will be played in Bloemfontein at the end of the month.

Italy A has withdrawn from the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances and the Bulls will replace them in two of the matches.

A Western Province XV will come in to replace the Italians in the match against the Currie Cup champions, the Pumas.

The Bulls will tackle the Cheetahs in the opening match of the tournament.

The Toyota Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told Bloemfontein Courant that while it’s disappointing that the Azzurri second-stringers won’t be making a turn in the Free State, the Bulls are a worthy opponent.

“It’s a pity that Italy A withdrew from the Toyota Challenge – we would have liked to play against international opposition. The Bulls are a worthy replacement and always bring out the best in the Cheetahs.

“We look forward to facing them in the Toyota Challenge. I think that it will be a good match-up and a great match for the spectators. The Bulls will be playing in the United Rugby Championship as well, so there will be a lot of interest in the game and we look forward to playing against them in Bloemfontein.”

The Bulls will, however, be playing against Connacht in Pretoria on the same day in the URC, and thus it is expected that they will field their second-stringers for the Toyota Challenge.
