Bloemfontein – Brebner Primary School teacher, Marizaan Smit, is thrilled to have six of the school’s netball and hockey players representing the Free State in All Ages and the Regional Festivals in June and July.
“We at the school select a few children to participate in the Free State trials," Smit told Courant Sport.
"There they play matches as combined teams, players from different schools against another team that the selectors choose.”
“If they impress the selectors they go through to the next round. After the second round the selectors sit together and choose a team (or teams) to represent the Free State in the provincial level,” Smit added.
Mpho Matshaba, Stacey Jones, Katleho Ncobo, Myron Phillips and Hlonepho Ngxande have been selected for hockey and will receive Southern Free State colours.
They will represent the province in the Regional Festival which will be held from 29 June to 2 July 2014 in Witbank, Mpumalanga.
Karabo Peters is the only leaner from Brebner who has selected for netball and will don provincial colours as well.
She will represent the province in the All Ages Tournament which will be held from the 30 June until 5 July in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal.
