The school beat over 200 other Free State schools before representing the province nationally and coming second in the
competition. Donald says the competition aims to inculcate in learners a love for natural science and technology, career areas most needed in the country.
“This country needs scientists; we need people in specificfields and learners all have latent talents and what we do is we educate them holistically and we try and find those learners that might have a love for astronomy; for the sciences and we encourage it at all times,” says Donald. Brebner has an internal debating and quiz competition where learners are given background knowledge of astronomy and they do research online and compete among themselves from which the best four team
members are chosen to participate.
