Brandwag majorette squad excels

The Brandwag Primary majorette squad

The Brandwag majorette squad has progressed into the top Elite League for the SA Championships, which will be held in Chatsworth, Durban, this week.
The Brandwag majorette squad has won the Provincial Championships over the last two years, winning all divisions overall in 2017.
The squad performed very well and was chosen to take part in the South African Championships for the last four years. This team received a ninth place overall in the President’s League in the first year, fifth place in the second year, and an overall second place in 2016.
“Our girls also have 11 representatives in the Free State Provincial Team consisting of 15 girls. We are very excited and proud of this achievement and about this opportunity,” said principal André Venter.
The squad has been practising three hours per day during the term and seven hours per day in the school holidays and on Saturdays to prepare themselves for this prestigious event.
Since 2013 this school has started an active majorette squad involving 37 girls of their school. The ages of the girls are between seven and 13 years old. “Our belief is that a healthy body houses a healthy mind and these girls have the opportunity to express themselves in a very artistic way,” said Venter.
It does not often happen that a squad qualifies for several national championship within their first few years of participating at this level. “This makes their achievement so much more special,” said Venter.
The team left for the nationals on Monday 10 July 2017, and will be representing the Free State as team and part of the provincial team.
“We wish them all the best and know they will do us proud!”
Venter also said it took a lot of hard work from the girls as well as their coaches to reach this level. – JERETHA OOSTHUIZEN
