Brandfort man (78) loses hand in grenade accident

A 78-year-old grenade collector from Brandfort, Bloemfontein lost his right hand when a grenade went off in his garage yesterday afternoon.
According the man’s family, he was showing some friends his collection when the grenade exploded in his hands.
The blast amputated his right hand and left his left hand and stomach severely burned.
While ER24 paramedics were on their way to attend to the scene, the elderly man’s wife and grandson were en-route to the hospital.
Paramedics took over from his family and on assessment, found that he was in a critical condition having lost several pints of blood. This was corrected by blood replacement therapy.
Paramedics also administered pain management en-route to Medicinic Bloemfontein.
