After losing her job, a local seamstress joined forces with her friend to establish a vegetable garden at the Botshabelo District Hospital.
According to the Free State Provincial Government (FSPG), when Mapuleng Ramasedi lost her job as a seamstress at Botshabelo industrial she refused to give up despite the challenges she faced during after the company closed down.
Ramasedi and her friend Naomi Nthoba approached the hospital management who were open to the idea.
The pair received assistance from the Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development that drilled a borehole to get the garden off the ground.
“This vegetable garden has helped me and I even managed to pay for my daughter’ studies. It requires hard work and I am happy that we have made it a success. We have employed five more people,” said the proud Ramasedi.

Free State’s Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae visited the garden during her unannounced visit to the hospital on 6 March. According to FSPG, she made a pledge to engage with the Free State Agriculture and Rural Development Elzabe Rockman on plans to cultivate the land.
