Body of an unknown man discovered in Welkom

Police in the Free State have opened an inquest docket after the body of an unknown man, believed to be in his thirties, was discovered this weekend in Welkom.

Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says the body was discovered by a passerby who altered the police after he saw the deceased hanging from a tree near a school in Volks Road in the area. Mbambo explains the man was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. She adds that the deceased was wearing a T-shirt, grey denim and blue flip-flops. Mbambo says police are currently still looking for the deceased’s relatives.

OFM News previously reported that the body of the 22-year-old Nthabiseng Rampai was recently discovered in her bedroom at De Wet Street in Reitzpark, Welkom. Upon discovery, Rampai’s hands were tied and she had strangling marks around her neck. There was also a written message next to her stating: “STOP ASSAULTING INMATES”. It is alleged Rampai was raped and murdered in her bedroom by a suspect who waited for her father to leave the house before he broke in and attacked her.
