Who says technology is the only way to add convenience to everyday life? The Van Rensburg/Lancet Laboratory in Bloemfontein offers convenience for their patients with their latest innovative concept of a blood collection drive-through facility.
The marketing manager, Ineke Pentz, says “it is for people who are in a rush and in search of convenience for the elderly. It’s also for our patients that might be in wheelchairs and not so mobile. It is very convenient for our patients to draw blood there.”
She adds the full service facility caters to all the needs of patients who would like to make use of the drive-through, all while they are in their cars. Those who don’t feel comfortable can still make use of the rooms available on site.
“It is the same service. It is the same way you would draw blood anywhere else, it is not going to change the price [of blood tests] either,” she explains.
The idea of a drive-through service stems from their Covid-19 drive-through testing service.
“When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, we opened the drive-through. We were the first and only pathology firm at that stage to open a drive-through for Covid testing and it was extremely popular during that period for our patients to test there [at the branch in Westdene],” she says.
As the demand for testing and the severity of the pandemic dropped, the firm looked into other options to diversify and bring further convenience to their patients.
“We decided to be innovative. We opened it up to the public as a blood collection facility,” Pentz adds.
