Bloemfontein schools shine in bridge building

The South African Institution of Civil Engineering’s Bloemfontein Branch hosted the 19th Annual Schools’ Aqualibrium Water Competition and the 31st Annual Schools’ Bridge Building Competition on 23 April.

Fourteen teams took part in the Water Competition and 18 teams in the Schools’ Bridge Building Competition.

The teams that participated were from schools across Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu.

The winners of the Bridge Building Competition were Jim Fouché High School’s team A. From the left are Mieke Swarts, Lourens van Niekerk and Yvé Kriel.

The winners of the Bridge Building Competition were Jim Fouché High School’s Team A (Yvé Kriel, Mieke Swarts and Lourens van Niekerk). Fichardt Park High School’s Team C were placed second and Jim Fouché High School’s Team B third.

The winners of the Water Competition were Moemedi High School’s Team B. From the left are Tshwanelo Lepheane, Lehlohonolo Mokoena and Karabelo Masiea.

The winners of the Water Competition were Moemedi High School’s Team B (Karabelo Masiea, Lehlohonolo Mokoena and Tshwanelo Lepheane), while Lenyora la Thuto Secondary School’s Team C came second and Eunice High School’s Team B third.

Yvé Kriel, Mieke Swarts and Lourens van Niekerk from Jim Fouché will be participating in the Bridge Building National Finals in August, while Karabelo Masiea, Lehlohonolo Mokoena and Tshwanelo Lepheane from Moemedi will participate in the Aqualibrium Water National Finals in July.
