“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
This profound statement by our beloved former president and world icon, the late Nelson Mandela, were the inspiration behind the launch of the very first schools’ edition by Bloemfontein Courant, which hit the streets this morning (to read the online version, go to https://www.bloemfonteincourant.co.za/epapers/15-june-2018-courant-schools-ed/).
This project is especially dear to our hearts at Mahareng because it was incepted on the eve of Mandela Month and also in the Centenary Year of Nelson Mandela.
To proof how important education is to Bloemfontein Courant, we intend to publish the schools’ edition on a quarterly basis, packed with news about all the schools in our distribution area. This is on top of the schools’ page featured in our weekly edition of the paper.

We at Bloemfontein Courant, together with our partner, Central University of Technology, Free State, would like give schools the platform to celebrate their achievements and share their aspirations with the rest of the world. And if, by doing so, we inspire learners and teachers to reach for greater heights, we will have reached our goal.
Our province is already the national leader in terms of the matric pass rate. We hope that this new schools’ edition will help to make the province an even greater force to be reckoned with in the field of education. – Christel Basson, General Manager: Mahareng
