Bloem Water to reduce supply of bulk water to 30%

Bloem Water will immediately reduce supply of bulk water to the Mangaung Metro Municipality to 30% due to non-payment. The Metro’s overdue account is currently around R270 million. This excludes the settlement account reached during December 2020.

This is according to a statement released by the bulk water supplier today, which further states that this arrangement will remain in place until payment has been received.

Bloem Water explained that the current water restrictions imposed on the Mangaung Metro Municipality is due to non-payment of the bulk water account. The Metro has allegedly not addressed its bulk water current account since June 2021, resulting in their account negatively affecting the operations of Bloem Water.

On 19 October Bloem Water issued a 30-day notice of restriction in terms of Section 4(5) of the Water Services Act, with the effective implementation date of 19 November 2021.

On 18 November, Bloem Water received correspondence from the Metro regarding a payment proposal for the outstanding accounts. However, Bloem Water did not agree with the said payment proposal as it allegedly presented no tangible commitment to pay and bring the accounts up to date.
