Bloem intersection creates confusion

MARINÉ JACOBS

A street name conundrum at a busy intersection in Bloemfontein has drivers scratching their heads.
An intersection in Westdene, where Henry Street and Charles Street cross with First Avenue, is now quite puzzling due to the wrong indication of street names. Henry Street now crosses with the very same Henry Street, while Charles Street is also indicated as crossing itself. First Avenue seems to have disappeared.
A Courant reader noticed the confusion while he was driving in the area one day. “I looked at the street names and suddenly realised something is seriously wrong here,” he laughs. “Just imagine you have to direct a non-local to an address in the area. They will be searching forever!”
Responding to an enquiry from Courant, spokesperson for Mangaung Metro Municipality Qondile Khedama said a team has been sent out to investigate the matter. “The city appreciates the initiates that are being taken by other members of the community in correcting the wrongs they see. This city belongs to all of us, and we need the cooperation of each and every member to make it work,” said Khedama.
