A brand new initiative is coming to Bloemfontein in September. The City of Roses will officially play host to its first ever Green Expo.
The expo will be a platform for the green economy of the province to showcase their skills and products. Various Green leaders and organisations will share their knowledge and contacts with locals. Some of them will also be speakers at this event. Anita Venter and Tjaart van der Walt from Start Living Green – Green possibilities for a brighter future, Thabo Olivier, pioneer on food security in the Free State, Ifa Tshishonge, Green energy and renewable resources-fundi, Francois Fourie, expert on water harvesting potential in the Free State and Seth Clements from the Earthship Biotecture Academy – Radical sustainability implementation in Toas, New Mexico (USA), are some of the speakers at the expo. At the Green Workshop people will get taught new skills on saving the planet.
Other activities visitors can expect from the expo are the Hlalele brothers showcasing food security techniques, the Van Antwerpen brothers showing cob building techniques and Clements demonstrating the art of tyre pounding.
The day also includes an eco-outdoor exhibition with 4×4 gadgets on exhibition. A display race with electric granny shopping carts, home built electric cars, electric golf carts and a bed race will take place at the old racing course at Brandkop nature reserve.
The expo will take place from 5 to 7 September at Haldon Estate in Kwaggafontein. Entrance is free.
