Biolink host ADHD expo

Biolink is hosting an ADHD expo on 13 and 14 May 2016 at Pres. Brand primary school in Pellissier.

This will be the second expo that is hosted in Bloemfontein, after a need was identified to put information withtin reach of parents, teachers as well as people who are involved in education and development of children in Bloemfontein and surrounding areas.

Exhibitors and speakers offers information to parents with children that struggle with paying attentio,n focusing as well as other learning problerms and disorders.

Visitors to this expo will be able to browse through stalls and speak to specialist regarding products and services that are educational.

To name a few: toys and aids will be placed on show by Edunation.  Edublox will market their programmes on bettering reading as well as mathematical skills.  Biolink will also have a stall and will be giving advice regarding study methods, as well as their programme on improving concentration.  The occupational therapists, Pennie Calitz and Agnieta Dreyer will also be manning a stall to share their expertise.  The Pony Academy will be giving advice on how to support children with ADHD with their horseriding programmes.  Blaze Academy is a relitively new school in Blomfontein which focuses on helping children with learning disorders.

The main speaker is Prof. André Venter.

Professor Venter currently is the Academic Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of the Free State.  His special area of interest is child development and he obtained his Doctorate in 1991 in this field at the University of Alberta, Canada.  He is particularly interested in cerebral palsy, attention deficit and hyperactivity, autism and learning problems.  He is the founder and immediate past National Chairman of PANDA-SA (Paediatric Neurology and Development Association of Southern Africa).  He is a member of the Advisory Board for Sensory Integration, was an executive member of the International Child Neurology Association and first president of the African Child Neurology Association since 2010.

He has won several awards for excellence both in research and teaching.  Among others he has been listed in 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century and International Health Professional of the year 2006, presented by the International Biographical Society, Cambridge, England in 2006.  In 2008 his CV was published in “Great lives of the 21st Century”. In 2012 he received the South African Lifetime Achievement Award for promoting child mental health through education, and in 2014 the PANDA Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Neurosciences in South Africa.

Professional people will qualify for 5 CPD marks (HPCSA Level 1) when they attend the expo.

Entrance fee is R50 per person per day and tickets can be bought before the expo at Edunation’s branch in Langenhovenpark or at the entrance gates during the expo.
