‘Biggest newspaper in Bloemfontein’ turns 15

Bloemfontein Courant is celebrating a significant milestone this month. The newspaper has undergone several changes from its development years, to establishing the Courant name, Bloemfontein Courant has been part of the world of print for 15 years and is firmly rooted as the city’s biggest community newspaper.

“In 15 years, Bloemfontein Courant has become the biggest newspaper in Bloemfontein,” explained Nick Efstathiou, CEO of Central Media Group. “With 45,000 copies delivered every week and a readership of 177,000 every four weeks, Bloemfontein Courant is a testament to community ownership and a leader in the weekly newspaper space.”

Efstathiou went on to explain that Bloemfontein Courant has stayed on top of the ever-changing field by providing journalists with unprecedented access to sources and contacts, as well as a direct line of communication with the local community. “It has changed the way stories are told,” he said, “allowing for more immersive storytelling.”

Bloemfontein Courant has faced challenges, including the cost of distribution and print, “but with agile business, Courant has navigated these challenges very well,” said the CEO. “The people of this tremendous publication have used innovative ways to enhance the positioning of the paper,” he said. According to Efstathiou, “Bloemfontein Courant has community interests at heart,” which he believes positions the newspaper at the forefront of community investment by telling the stories of the Bloemfontein community.

“Key to Courant’s success is its heartwarming ownership of Bloemfontein and the community that lives in this wonderful city,” the CEO said. He went on to say: “Bloemfontein Courant has made its way into the lives of all who read the weekly publication and the key priority is to keep telling the stories of the people of the City of Roses.”
