Elize Devenish went into the hospital for a procedure when doctors found she had a stroke. Last month’s altercation resulted in Devenish falling and breaking her left forearm in full view of CCTV cameras.
This after she took a tub of yoghurt in the cafeteria on Wednesday, May 22. The elderly resident was further left lying on the ground for over five minutes without receiving assistance, not even from a passing nurse. The Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court has granted the 55-year-old employee, who was involved in the altercation, R1000 bail.
The accused, Nomakhosazana Synthia Lebea, who works in the kitchen area of the home, appeared on a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
When asked for comment, Devenish’s son Charl said doctors found that his mother had a stroke approximately a week or two ago – after the altercation on video.
