Bfn man with gunshot head wound a robbery casualty

The 26-year-old Bloemfontein man discovered this past Friday evening with a gunshot wound to the head is confirmed to be a victim of a business robbery.

Free State police spokesperson, Ikobeng Hlubi, reveals the victim was shot by one of four suspects at a local cash store located along the R702, from Bloemfontein to Dewetsdorp, about an hour before paramedics reached him.

OFM News is unable to reveal the name of the cash store in question at this stage.

Hlubi says at 19:30 on Friday evening the victim finished locking up the store and began driving off in his vehicle when he and three security guards were accosted by four male suspects travelling in a white VW Golf – model unconfirmed.

They allegedly instructed the security guards to lie face down on the ground before one of them fired shots at the victim’s car. She says the victim sustained a head injury in the shooting.

At around 20:30 Friday evening, emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, finding the victim in a critical condition. ER24’s Werner Vermaak reveals the man was stabilised at the crime scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The victim was not alone in the car.

Hlubi says the four assailants were unable to find any cash on-site and instead stole the handbag of the unidentified lady accompanying the victim. The handbag only had cards inside. She was not hit in the shooting incident.

After grabbing the handbag the suspects fled the scene in the car they initially travelled in. The vehicle was later found burnt in Ipopeng township. Police confirm all four suspects are still at large at present.
