The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Bloemfontein, together with OFM and the Bloemfontein Courant hosted the Tutus and Tekkies Fun Run/Walk at Be Human Middelwater Farm this past weekend.

This celebration formed part of #Cansa90 years of leading the fight against cancer, through research, education and support.

According to Marijka Bestser, events coordinator at Be Human Middelwater Farm, they are very thankful that the farm was chosen as a venue for this event as they are striving to be part of the community. She said the turnout was rather good and they were looking forward to hosting more of this type of events. “The mission of the farm is to introduce a family environment where people can come and have a good time outdoors.”

JP and Johané du Toit, who came out to enjoy the day in the outdoors and take part in the fun run, said they came to experience some fun in the sun a little out of Bloemfontein. “The main reason we came today was in support of Cansa.”

The route for the day was 7 km, which offered individuals and teams the choice to run or walk at their own pace, while only teams could enjoy the obstacle course along the route.

“The obstacle course is symbolic of the daily obstacles faced by cancer patients and how we, as Cansa, are here to assist in overcoming these obstacles through our care and support programmes offered to cancer patients and their loved ones,” explained Jeanne Rawlinson, sustainability coordinator for Cansa Bloemfontein.
