Following in the footsteps of the now world famous Dr Paulo de Valdoleiros, the Bloemfontein based medical doctor who allows patients to pay what they can afford, counselling therapist, Lefkie Vazladelis Lange, will now also bring Bloemfontein residents therapy on a budget because she believes that getting help should not be about affordability.
Vazladelis Lange explained that she started her practice about two months ago in the same building as Dr De Valdoleiros.
Vazladelis Lange now uses the same payment method for her patients. She told Bloemfontein Courant she has always felt the need to help people and that they are naturally drawn to her. “I do charge people R50 but will not turn them away if they cannot afford it.”
She said that in the past two months she has been visited by a few patients but not as many as she would have thought.
“I find a great deal of pleasure in being able to help others and because I have been through my own life challenges, it helps me to relate and understand my patients.”
One of the main reasons behind the practice is the fact that Vazladelis Lange realises it is not always easy for people as they do not always have the financial means to go for therapy. This results in a great need for these types of services. She also explained that many people start with therapy and eventually their medical aid runs out and they cannot continue. That is where she is hoping to make a difference.
She further explained that she sees this as an opportunity to give back to her community, as she was born and bred in Bloemfontein. Her services include individual counselling, family counselling and counselling for any addictions. She said she does not offer services to children under the age of 7 and also refers patients to a specialist where she sees fit.
Vazladelis Lange said she offers people a safe place where they can come and speak about what is weighing them down without the fear that they are saying too much. She listens to their story and guides them to achieve their goals.
Vazladelis Lange received her higher certificate through the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) in Cape Town and is currently busy with her degree. Her practice can be found at 100 Kellner Street, Westdene, in Bloemfontein.
She is available from Monday to Friday from 09:00 until 16:00.
