Bloemfontein residents can expect an upswing in temperatures for the rest of the week. This comes after a cold front hit central parts of South Africa on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving both Bloemfontein and Welkom with icy weather.

According to Jan Vermeulen of the South African Weather Service, although winter has arrived, residents can expect a pleasant weekend as temperatures will be rising.

“Winter has undoubtedly started but tomorrow is expected to be warmer. However, because of the overnight frost, the weather will still be cool over the next few days,” he explained.

“We don’t expect a further decrease in temperatures,” Vermeulen added.

It will remain windy in the Eastern Free State with an expected 4 degrees increase on Thursday compared to Wednesday. “People should keep warm but we expect temperatures to be cool but pleasant on Saturday and Sunday.”
