Bloemfontein estate agent Nomakhosi Gans appeared in the Bfn Magistrates’ court on charges of fraud, forgery, contravention of the Estate Agency Affairs Act, and money laundering.
This comes after the 40-year-old had her victim deposit R175 000 into Gans Property Investments to purchase a house in Mafora, Bloemfontein.
Hawks spokesperson Christopher Singo said that Gans later contacted the victim and indicated that the property in Mafora was no longer for sale and she would search for other properties. “The victim then told Gans that she was not interested in other properties and then requested a refund of the R175 000,” said Singo. Gans said that her company was facing financial difficulties and that she would refund the victim at a later stage.
No money was received by the victim after numerous requests. The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation.
Gans was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for fraud, suspended for five years on condition that she refunds the full amount to the victim before 31 December 2024.
