Bfn DJ to take over Africa

A Bloemfontein born female DJ is set to take over Africa within the next four months with her Africa Tour. Tshegofatso Petlhu, aka DJ Tshegu, has been in the music industry for 17 years.

Her DJ-ing career began when her father was set to DJ at a wedding in Lesotho but fell ill. “When I noticed my father could not play, I took over and played my first song. It was that moment he realized I have been paying attention to him when he was spinning the decks,” she explained.

Petlhu’s Africa tour began where her DJ experience started, in Lesotho. She will play in Botswana and Namibia this month, and in Swaziland and Zimbabwe in June. She says her Africa Tour is a great opportunity for her and her brand. “This tour to me means that the music industry is finally giving back the effort I have been putting in throughout all these years.” Petlhu will end her Africa Tour with a bang in August, where she will be playing in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana.

She described herself as a DJ and a performer, who completed her Sound Engineering course in 2020 at PAS Media Academy. She has previously headlined events, performed and shared big stages with artists like Major League, Kamo Mphela, DBN Gogo, Busta929 and Uncle Waffles. Petlhu will also be amongst local artists which will be performing on the last day of the Bloem Show on 7 May.

“I’m humbled by the love that I’m receiving at the moment but I have a rich history in the industry. The assumption that most people make is that I just started this journey, or that I am an overnight success. But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s been years of hard work and perseverance.”

The advice she has for artists and creatives is to get a team of honest, pure intentioned people who can help build their brand. “There are certain things you can’t do by yourself and that’s why you need a team to help you achieve them.”

Petlhu can be reached on the following social media platforms: Twitter (Djtshegu), IG (Djtshegu) and Facebook (DJ TSHEGU).
