Bfn couple, son granted R50 000 bail each after fraud arrests

A Bloemfontein couple and their son were granted R50 000 bail each after a brief appearance in the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Tuesday.

The case was postponed to 7 April 2017 for further investigation.

The Hawks’ Commercial Crime Unit, together with South African Revenue Service (Sars) investigators, arrested Norman Delport (65), his wife Catharina Delport (58), and their son Marius Delport (36) for tax fraud on Tuesday.

They are facing 135 charges of VAT fraud involving R59 660 504.

It is alleged that between 2011 and 2014 the suspects submitted false vat returns of their company, Two Ships Trading (Pty), to Sars, a contravention of section 59 (1) of the Vat Act, Act 89 of 1999.
