Members of the Mangaung Athletics Club were awed to receive support from Bloemfontein Celtic ahead of their trip to Durban for the 2017 Comrades Marathon.

The participating athletes received brightly coloured green and white Bloemfontein Celtic replicas and tracksuits with Celtic and Mangaung Athletics Club branding.

To add the cherry on top, the runners were also provided with transport assistance from Phunya Maselesele as the organization provided transport and covered all transport related costs. Managing Director of the local soccer club, Rali Ramabodu gave the runners their new apparel at the Celtic offices in Bloemfontein on Friday afternoon.

An employee of Bloemfontein Celtic, Lerato Molemela, who was also participating in the prestigious race said he was thankful for the club’s assistance and said the club’s donation, gave him the confidence to perform well in the race.

The Comrades Marathon was on Sunday, 4 June 2017. The race began at the Durban City Hall at 05h30 and ended 12 hours later at the Scottsville Race Course in Pietermaritzburg, covering a distance of approximately 90km.

This year marks the marathon’s 96th year running and remains the world’s older and largest ultramarathon race.
