Bloemfontein beauty, Meghan Pearl Kurama, was crowned the second runner-up for the Face of Beauty International 2019 in the Philippines on 17 November 2019. Kurama, who represented South Africa, told Bloemfontein Courant in an exclusive interview that it has been a huge honour to represent her country.
“Representing my country and coming back with a title absolutely means the world to me. I had a great support system and to have represented the whole country and putting my all on the stage made me proud. It is was a great honour,” she said.
Kurama, who is now an official brand ambassador for the internationally renowned beauty pageant, also won the title for the best interview. Kurama explained to Bloemfontein Courant that it came as a shock to her when she won best interview. “Most people know me as someone who can talk but I am also very reserved and observant. However, when it is time for me to stand up and speak up, I do it.”
Kurama, an educator at Dr Böhmer School, will be returning back home soon and described her experience as simply amazing. “It was amazing and we learned a lot. A sisterhood was formed and we are going out into the world as individuals wanting to bring change. We also had workshops that equipped us with knowledge we wouldn’t have gained somewhere else if it had not been for the platform.”
