REFILWE MEKOA
The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in the Free State says MEC of Health Benny Malakoane is cheaply politicising the health department.
TAC’s provincial chairperson, Sello Mokhalipi, says Malakoane should focus on the availability of medicine and what occurs around healthcare facilities. He says Malakoane should stop giving out wrong information to the media. Mokhalapi was speaking at the national people’s health manifesto launch this morning in Bloemfontein.
He says the manifesto was launched in the Free State after recent death threats to TAC provincial leaders. “It doesn’t mean when you’re qualified you automatically become a leader and if a person has pending criminal charges against him you put that person in a position where he has to guard the lives of people. People should ask themselves if a person who might be corrupt could be trusted with the lives of people,” he says.
Mokhalipi says political parties should suspend MECs or office bearers who face serious criminal charges like Health MEC Benny Malakoane. He says their manifesto was distributed to all political parties who will run in this year’s general elections.
