Bainsvlei farm attack suspects back in court in February

Bloemfontein – The case against three men arrested in connection with the murder of Toon and Rienie Swanepoel from Bainsvlei outside Bloemfontein has been postponed to next month for a formal bail application.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Free State, Phaladi Shuping, says Hendrik Ntsudi, Motsamai Bitterbos and Jackie Louw did not physically appear in the Bloemfontein Magastrate’s Court this morning because they are in correctional custody at the Grootvlei Prison.

According to Shuping today’s court proceedings were conducted through a television monitor system which is more cost effective and less time consuming.

The accused will be back in court on February 5 for a formal bail application.

This follows their first appearance last week during which the case was postponed to today to investigate among others if they have previous convictions or  are a flight risk.

The suspects are accused of torturing and murdering the elderly Swanepoel couple on their farm Vergezocht last week Sunday.
