SABRINA DEAN – A man who allegedly shot at police when they responded to a report of domestic violence in Bainsvlei, Bloemfontein, at the weekend was yesterday granted bail of R10 000.

Police spokesperson Wendy Nkabi says 28-year-old William du Plessis appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on five charges, including attempted murder, yesterday. He was released on bail and the case was postponed to 27 January 2015.

According to police, Du Plessis and his girlfriend had been partying with friends in town at the weekend. A fight broke out on route home to Bainsvlei and continued after they got home. Neighbours alerted police of the disturbance and Du Plessis was allegedly holding his girlfriend hostage when police arrived.

Nkabi says he was later arrested and the girlfriend was rescued with only minor assault injuries.

Nkabi says Du Plessis is charged with attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm, possession of illegal ammunition, discharging of a firearm in a municipal area and domestic violence under assault GBH.
