The bail proceeding into the murder case of the 74-year-old Angelina Thibeletsa has been postponed in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The magistrate, Vuyelwa Mahamba, postponed the matter to 28 January 2019. The court gallery was packed with mostly women from the African National Congress (ANC), family and friends.
The young couple, Masekate Mallela (21) and Lonwabo Ntobela (23), are facing charges of murder, house robbery and theft of a motor vehicle. The Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, earlier told Bloemfontein Courant the two were Thibeletsa’s tenants and they allegedly robbed the 74-year-old and thereafter strangled her to death on Friday 4 January 2019.
The two allegedly then drove Thibeletsa’s body in her car to Kroonstad where her body was found dumped near Flavious Mareka FET College on 5 January 2019. Thibeletsa was last seen by her neighbours at her home where she stayed alone in Mjezu Street, Rocklands, on Friday the 4 January 2019 and was reported missing on 14 January 2019.
Mbambo said the young couple were successfully traced by members of the crime intelligence in Aliwal North. – Lucky Nkuyane
