Azana bags 4 Sama nominations

At the age of 20, songwriter and vocalist Makhosazana Masango, better known as Azana, is taking the music industry by storm with four South African Music Award (Samas) nominations and over 2 million views on YouTube with her song Your Love.

Azana, who is currently a law student at the University of the Free State, has always enjoyed music and started recording at the age of 14. Her debut album, titled Ingoma, was released when she was 19 years old. In an exclusive interview with Bloemfontein Courant, Azana expressed her love for nature as something that calms her, hence her decision to move to Bloemfontein as she “finds it peaceful here”.

The talented music star was recently nominated in four Sama categories, including Best Newcomer of the Year, Record of the Year (Your Love), Afro Pop Album of the Year (Ingoma) and Music video of the Year (Your Love).

Growing up as the only girl in the family, Azana was given the name Princess, which led her to be drawn to the idea of royalty and purpose. “I then discovered my purpose through my passion, which is to perform and create. I have enjoyed music since the time I started singing at the age of 6.”

Not only is she making waves in the entertainment industry, but Azana has also worked with the likes of as Mthunzi, Claudio, Kenza, Taffy Da Don, Disciples of House, Sun El Musician and artists such as Just Bheki, S.tone and Sino Msolo.
