SHERISKA MÜLLER – Have you ever wondered why you have to count your pennies to get from point A to point B? The answer will be revealed during an awareness campaign to inform people about the structure of the basic fuel price, hosted by the Department of Energy in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 9 July .
The event will be open to the public and according to the Department’s Johannes Mokobane will be very beneficial to those who attend. “It is part of the government’s plan to inform and educate the public,” says Mokobane. He says government hopes to make people aware of the reasons for the increase or decrease in fuel prices.
The fuel price can be influenced by both international and national factors. The international factors change daily and include things such as the rand/dollar exchange rate and the average international fuel price. The national factors change annually and are influenced by South Africa’s tax system.
During the event the public will receive information on why it is so important to save energy and do its part. Members of the public will receive tips on how to use fuel efficiently in order to save both energy and money by making only a few changes.
The awareness campaign will be held at Bloem Plaza Mall, Bloemfontein from 10:00 to 13:00. Entrance is free.
