And here we are at the start of another year, still wondering where the old one went. Maybe some of us have not even had time to sort our thoughts about this year and the expectations we have for ourselves and our lives.
Our attitude will be an essential part of the success we will experience in a year’s time. This year we will write a new chapter for our lifestory. Will it be the same as all the others or will it be different and show growth? What we experience in the next year may not necessarily be our choice. How we deal with it is. Our attitude determines the outcome of this new chapter.
“Joy can only be real if people look upon their life as a service and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness” (Leo Tolstoy). Our attitude should be one of looking at our challenges in the new year as an opportunity to grow and help others. We are reminded of our dependence on God. The focus is moved from me and my life to one of helping and serving others. It can start with just a kind word to a stranger or having patience towards those who serve us. Attitude is what draws people to us or what pushes them away. Listening to the Holy Spirit will always be the most dependable way to know if our attitude is pleasing to God.
