Armed robbery at N1 filling station hours ago

A group of heavily armed men wearing balaclavas stormed into a convenience store at a filling station next to the N1 outside of Bloemfontein this morning.

Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says seven men armed with high calibre fire arms entered the shop at around 03:00. He says seven cashiers were held at gun point. The suspects demanded money.

Marope says two of the robbers jumped over a counter and opened a drop safe behind the counter using unknown explosives.

According to Marope the robbers also stole four portable safes and fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Golf. There is a possibility that a second vehicle was also used. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.  – Christal-Lize Muller
