Armed robbers target ATM at Universitas Hospital

Armed men allegedly assaulted security personnel at Universitas Hospital, Bloemfontein while attempting to steal cash from an ATM. The would-be robbers entered the health care facility on Wednesday night at about 22:45.
The suspects attempted to access the safe of the express ATM located within the hospital but failed. This comes after they allegedly slapped two security members before holding them hostage.
One of the victims, Lesley Masekoa, recalled the incident. “They covered their faces with white fabric and walked into the building with guns. I was in the control room when we saw them walk in,” said Masekoa. “They slapped my colleague and I before they told us to lay down on the floor and held us hostage,” he added.
The men then proceeded to damage the ATM. “They broke the top of the machine and removed its screen but they were not able to remove the safe. I think they thought they would be able to take it with them but it was too heavy for them to pick up. They ran away with nothing,” said Masekoa.
According to the security supervisor a case has been opened. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
