More applications than expected for Lesotho permits

Applications for Lesotho Special Permits are still streaming in and have already surpassed the Department of Home Affairs estimation of the number of applications be received.

This is according to Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba. He said during his visit to the Basotho Community in Rustenburg, North West that more than 66100 applications have been received.

This is while the department initially estimated that approximately 50 000 Lesotho citizens who work, study or do business in South Africa will apply for the permit to regularize their stay in the country.

Gigaba, reminded community members yesterday that there are only 23 days left for Lesotho citizens to take up the opportunity to apply for a permit.

His department moved the deadline for applications to the end of the month after a request from the Lesotho government.
